BOSS · KESTREL IV
THE SAND COLOSSUS
Every planet ends with a boss. The Colossus changes form as it breaks: a new shape and a flash at half its health, again at a quarter, and on the hardest planets a fourth phase.
You move. Your squad shoots.

01 · FIELD TEST
A slice of the core loop, in your browser. Ninety seconds on Kestrel IV: recruit, level up, hold out, then make it to extraction.
A browser sketch of the loop. The game adds heroes, objectives, bosses and a lot more enemies.
02 · HOW IT PLAYS
You steer one soldier: the commander. Everything else is automatic. The squad holds formation, picks its targets and fires on its own, so the only question is where to go next.
01
Run the commander across the map, with keys, a gamepad or a finger. That's the whole control scheme.
02
Stranded soldiers wait in circles. Stand inside for three seconds and they join, while the waves keep coming.
03
Enemies drop XP. At each level, pick one of three: new units, promotions, keywords, formations or abilities.
04
Complete the objective, then reach the extraction zone alive. Win or lose, the commander keeps the XP.
03 · THE SQUAD
You leave with a troop. Recruits follow the commander in formation, up to ten of them, and each one fights by its own rules.
YOU
The only one you steer. If the commander falls, the mission is lost.
LINE
Steady fire at the nearest threat. The backbone of every squad.
FIREPOWER
Explosive rounds that crack armor and scatter crowds.
SUPPORT
Patches up whoever is hurt the most, the commander included.
Freed in the field, one for each planet: when a cage opens, you pick one hero of three. A hero brings a power no recruit has.
SUPPORT
FIELD COMMAND
Allies nearby fire faster, recruiting is quicker, and a shout heals everyone.
AURAHEAL
SPECIALIST
CHAIN LIGHTNING
Lightning that jumps from enemy to enemy, starting on droids.
IONRANGED
MARKSMAN
LONG SHOT
Long-range shots, at creatures first, then the toughest enemy on the field.
PRECISERANGED
Upgrades speak a short, readable language. Stack the right ones and the squad changes how it fights.
04 · THE ENEMY
Hundreds at once, and not all alike. Read the horde, bring the right damage, keep moving.
Rushes in numbers. Never alone.
Fast and fragile. Hunts in packs.
Keeps its distance and shoots. Ion fries it.
Fires from far away, after a warning line.
Blocks shots from the front. Explosions go around it.
Runs at the squad and blows up on contact.
Shrugs off rifle fire. Bring explosives.
ION×2 against droids
EXPLOSIVE×2 against armored
KINETIC×1 against everything
